Listening to yourself. So, often in life, we're busy hearing what everyone else is saying, our spouse, our children, the television program we're watching, the commercials telling us to buy and of course our bosses and their demands. Sometimes we forget to listen to ourselves and keep track of what's going on inside. As a writer, I get to practice this everyday. I get to listen to dialogue I carry around in my head and determine if I want it change. Which gives me more control on how my day goes.

I take a step away and do something else. Often when I'm no longer obsessing, a passage or an idea will pop into my head and send me running back to my computer to jot it down.
