There's room out here for all of us - carve out your niche by practising in many genres and attempting many styles (poetry, shorts, flash...) Your voice will emerge through practice, and then you will be a writer because you will have a body of work behind you. Don't be shy, or scared, and switch off the inner critic, just have fun!

Making things up for a living - nothing beats the feeling of telling a story and having people read it. It's pure creativity, but it draws on all my experiences, attitudes, humour, beliefs, morals - and they all come out in my books.

I don't believe there is such a thing. There are so many other claims on a writer's time that sometimes we just can't focus, so we stop writing - we are 'blocked'. However, give us a quiet hour and we'll soon get cracking on a story. Mostly it's about turning up, applying bottom to chair and starting writing - anything will do to get you started.
