My process usually involves screaming into my hands, throwing a pillow across the room and then pushing through. However, there are times where that doesn’t work. For those particularly nerve-grating moments, I either go fishing for an hour or two or drive around the farm in my Polaris.

The best thing about being a writer, for me, is hearing of how others love visiting the worlds that I’ve created. Having the power to take people out of their everyday struggles and stresses, if only for a while, and giving them something to enjoy is very gratifying.

Believe in yourself. I know that is the most cliche’ answer imaginable, but it is my most sincere advice. Never get rid of your notes either. You may decide that you hate what you’d written the day before, but if you walk away from it and return later, you may find that your idea has yielded good fruit.

I tell my daughters bedtime stories every night, and I always have. When they eventually got old enough to join in, I would invite them to make up certain parts of the stories so that they would feel more involved in the process and have a vested interest in the tales. One evening, during story time, the girls gave me the basis for the Shadow of Okeaous novel. After four consecutive nights of telling them the story by memory, I finally had to take pen to paper just to keep up with my childrens’ imaginations.
