Ian Canon From my own experiences with addiction, and friends and family who have experienced addiction. But also from the void. That dark black place where ideas manifest from nothingness. Because who really knows. Most of the answers I give for where I get "my ideas" are just made up on the spot. Nobody knows where ideas manifest. They just do, then there they are, on paper.
Ian Canon It was actually from Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried. He showed me the true power of a story, in that it gets you closer to the truth than the truth can.

Ian Canon I don't believe in writer's block. Sometimes what you write will be garbage, but there's never a time that nothing comes out. It's like saying you have "thinker's block" where thinking just stops. It doesn't happen. You might think stupid thoughts, but thinking doesn't stop. If you have writer's block, that's more a reflection of your self-doubt as a writer. I say plow on. In the words of Anne Lamott, just take it "bird by shitty bird."
Ian Canon Sit down, write every day, and journal your progress.
Ian Canon I'm working on a novel called "What We Do On Weekends"
