Monique Shantay I love brain dumps and freewriting. I just shut my brain off and write whatever comes to me. Eventually, something will come out that makes sense.
Monique Shantay The best thing about being a writer is it's therapeutic. I was introduced to writing at a very young age as a form of therapy. Although Imperfect is totally fiction, there were some scenes that were pretty cathartic to write, and I've learned that everyone has a story to tell that can speak to someone else.
Monique Shantay Don't overthink! If you want to write a story, write. There will be times when you feel that your story sucks. There will be people around you who won't get your vision. So what! Do it anyway and do it now because tomorrow never comes,
Monique Shantay I started out as a poet, so now that I have written a novel, I'm working on a poetry book to be released later this year.
Monique Shantay Inspiration sometimes comes to me randomly but I find that I can't really depend on inspiration, as writer's block can happen. However, I do find inspiration in music, film, and my surroundings.
Monique Shantay The idea for Imperfect came from my own struggle with perfectionism. As children, we tend not to realize how hard it is to be a grown-up. We know exactly how we want our grown-up lives to be and can point out where the grown-ups got it wrong. It's not until we become grown-ups that we realize through trials and tribulations that at some point, all of us will fall.
