I love to read cozy mysteries. When I traveled to Northern Michigan last summer and saw some of the historic old buildings along the river I knew there were stories to be created. I used a couple of the buildings as my inspiration point, used my dream of owning a bed and breakfast and started writing.

Inspiration comes from all over. I enjoy weaving a story about an old building, a person I see somewhere, part of an overheard conversation or a bit from a TV show or movie. Being able to create or recreate a story of a place, person or idea is what inspires me.

I currently have three novels in progress. “Lifetime of Lies” is a novella that tells the story of one of the main characters in “The Stairway of Secrets.” Book two of The Halfway Point Lodge series, “Dock of Deceit” is due out the end of Summer and then there is a stand-alone large novel called “The Forgotten Nation."

If you are an inspiring writer, just do it. If you really want to write, then figure out a way to do it. Study it, listen to other writers and learn from them, carve out time and write.

Close your eyes for a minute and think about your idea of a perfect world or a world you would like to be part of or explore. Now, as a writer, I can paint that world with words. That is to me, the best thing about being a writer.

When I find myself with a case of writer's block, I turn to either art or baking. I am a mixed media artist and a cottage baker. I find that focusing on something other than writing but also in a creative realm helps me to work through whatever the block is.
