The dreaded writer's block . . . argh.
It happens and is bound to happen.
Well, for me I step away, grab a snack - bring on the Oreos, maybe fold some laundry. I also hang out with my kiddos. I try to clear my mind, experience and enjoy life, then come back. It always seems to do the job.

There are two best things about being a writer . . .
One, living through your characters in another world, exploring life through someone else's eyes (technically speaking).
Two, meeting all the fabulous people who want to take a chance and read your (debut) novel, seeing their enthusiasm, making their reading adventure worthwhile.

Read, Write, Research.
Read . . . I have read a lot of books by various authors. Know your genre and study the authors in that genre. That way you'll know your audience.
Write . . . Try to write every day even when you hit a brick wall. Step aside, then come back. We learn by practicing and get better in time. Never give up.
Research . . . I am not saying research intended for your novel or book, but research what it takes to be a writer. How to craft beginnings, middle, and ends; character arcs and what they do to make a story flow and draw in your readers. It's never a bad thing to learn more.
PS. watch movies. You can learn about telling a good story through the screen.
Write on my fellow writers; write on.

I am working on getting my debut novel, "The Will of Time" out to the literary world. When I do have a free moment in my marketing, I am starting book 2, which is the prequel, "The Power of Will." This gives a backstory of the main characters and where exactly the necklace and camera came from.

Inspiration to write comes to me in many ways.
One, I look at my students. What do they like to read? What entertains them? What makes a story worth remembering?
Two, I read. I have read many different books by various authors, and I love their own style and voice. I read their bios and see what it took for them to get where they are today.
Three, I listen to instrumental music when I write. Each composer and their composition takes me to a place of imagination. I honestly can say I have a song for each chapter of my novel (haha).

This question comes up a lot and a good one at that.
Nine years ago, my mom called me and asked if I wanted to write a children's book. Being a 5th grade Language Arts teacher for over 12 years, I thought, "Sure. Why not?"
So, what was once a small idea of two siblings traveling through time became an epic journey that not only spawned new characters and storyline, it became a writing lesson, an adventurous journey, and a lifelong memory I will always have with my mom.
