Chloe Kennedy Write a lot. Write about something every day, or do some tangible work towards your writing every day (i.e. mapping the story, developing characters, etc.). One piece of advice is, write what you know, I would take that a step back and say write what you know -- or have researched. It's important, even when writing fiction, that your description of things rings true. Also, get your work out there! Join a critique group! Revise, revise, revise.

Chloe Kennedy This is a difficult question simply because inspiration can come from so many places! If I'm trying to think of a new story, I'll keep asking myself "and what else?" Until a story forms. The starting point for this could be an image of a person, an interesting setting, or an action.
Chloe Kennedy The Doctor's Patient series grew organically from a short story which was intended as light entertainment between friends. That short story eventually became the Doctor's Patient.
