Nicholas M. Scholl I put it down. I am more of an organic writer anyway, so I don't always have a plan of where I want to go next. The best thing for my writer's block is my wife. I shoot her a couple of ideas, or ask her what she thinks should happen next. With those ideas in mind, I can get back to work, and either take what she said and put my own spin on it, or I have another idea that we've bounced around together and use that. She's as much a part of my novels as I am.
Nicholas M. Scholl Story-telling! I'm not a father yet, but I can't wait to keep writing for my kids and hopefully watching them grow up loving to read and tell stories of their own. I grew up a huge bookworm, but I know that the world of children these days does not revolve around books so much anymore. I would love to inspire young adults (anyone from 13 years and up, really) to read more and lose themselves in worlds that are perhaps a little brighter than ours sometimes.
Nicholas M. Scholl Don't be afraid to let people read your work! I know when I first started I was terrified of anyone reading my writing. It's your baby, and you've worked SO hard on it, and you don't want anyone to critique it or bash it like you know they would!

THIS IS A LIE!

Most people who ask want to read it, and they will likely give constructive criticism that you can use to make it better. Some people might not say those things in the nicest way, but the only way you get better is by putting yourself out there and letting someone who isn't biased wrap their minds around your writing.
Nicholas M. Scholl I'm currently working on getting published traditionally... it's a tough route to go, but I've always wanted to do it that way, even though I've already self-published At Its Finest (shameless plug!) Within the Eirdynn Realm, I just finished polishing up the sequel to Shroud Rising... Vrindian Odyssey! Now, I'm kind of cooling off while I mentally walk through what Keian (MC) will do next.
Nicholas M. Scholl I get inspired to write, much like a lot of authors, by everything around me. Seeing a certain situation or experiencing something difficult all goes into the vault, and when I sit down to write, those stories, those experiences, and everything I've seen and heard, gets its own nod in what I'm working on.
Nicholas M. Scholl In the Eirdynn realm, anything can happen. But the thousands of miles of forests and the jaggedly beautiful mountain ranges I pictured for it were inspired by my home state of Colorado.

As for the plot, I knew I wanted to write about dragons at some level, but I didn't want to be like everyone else. So, I added assassins. Cliche I'm sure... I loved the Inheritance Cycle (Chris Paolini) growing up, and I wanted to introduce a new take on dragons where men could become them.
