I try to write a little bit every day, even if it is just throwaway stuff that will never be used, I find that this sets the mind wandering and helps to keep it active.
Also as i like to write poetry I try to find prompts that will give me a subject to focus on for a while, these can be just random words, images, pieces of music or just a stray thought.
