Michelle Beesley Thankfully, I’ve never had writer’s block. I think this is because I write articles, romance and children’s books. There is always something different for me to do and if I really have no ideas I can always submit a recipe or record a podcast instead.
I’ve heard Tim Winton say he has three different desks where he writes different things to prevent writer’s block. I think writing a variety of different things is key for me as well.
Michelle Beesley I love the South of France and have been lucky enough to visit twice with my family. We also visit Paris regularly so the setting came first. France is the most romantic place for me. I wanted my female character to be smart and in an interesting field and as I’m interested in history I decided she should be an archeologist. I love the strong silent type of hero so my love interest was easy. My husband always says she just talks about all our holidays. I hope my happiness shines through in my work.
Michelle Beesley I’m lucky I’ve journaled my travels and I go back and look at travel photos of my setting. Walking solidifies my ideas.
Michelle Beesley It’s never too late. I began writing at 51 once my children were grown ups. Keep writing! Write every day.
Michelle Beesley I’ve finished a romance novel called Chateau D’Amour and sent it off. I’m dusting off some children’s stories and editing them to submit to publishers and the sequel to my first novel is in the planning stage.
Michelle Beesley Meeting other writers, sharing your stories and for me as a columnist, having a platform to share the stories of others. I also love being at home so working from home is a bonus.
Michelle Beesley This year I am looking forward to reading Charlotte Wood’s The Weekend, Lauren Chater’s Gulliver’s Wife and Maya Linnell’s second novel Bottlebrush Creek. Trent Dalton’s All Our Shimmering Skies is a must read and I have just finished the wonderful Paris Secret from Natasha Lester and the spine tingling thriller The Good Turn by Dervla Mc Tiernan.
