I got the idea for A Burden of Ice and Bone while watching a Smithsonian Channel docuseries about Churchill Manitoba called Polar Bear Town. I was so fascinated by the series, I then devoured every documentary I could about polar bears, the Northern Passage, and the arctic, and eventually circled back around to a Norwegian movie I remembered watching as a child, The Polar Bear King. All of that eventually inspired me to write my own East of the Sun, West of the Moon retelling in a world similar to the one I became obsessed over studying.
