What are you currently working on?
Sarah Hanley I'm working on a short story for a compilation, and also a novel. The short story is set in the 1920s at and around Coney Island, and the novel is based on Édouard Manet's favorite model, Victorine Meurent.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Sarah Hanley Matka is based loosely on my grandparents. I've been carrying the idea around in my head for years to write a biography of my grandfather and his experiences during and after World War 2, but more recently when I became a mother, my grandmother's story really resonated with me.
