That is a good question. One for which I don't have a good answer. I have always loved reading, and reading makes me want to write. That, and I'm inspired by my grandchildren and the mess that we, as a society, are leaving for them to deal with.

My new novel was inspired by 23andme and the whole genetic testing craze. That, and the changes to our world in my lifetime. Like "The Scream Of An Eagle", it also delves into the near future. I'll just leave it there, for now.

I used to think that I was totally satisfied with writing, just for the sake of writing. Now, I find that knowing others enjoy what I have written may be the best thing about being a writer. I love reading reviews of my work, even those that are critical in one way or another. I guess the short answer is that readers are the best thing about being a writer.

Writer's block has never been much of a problem for me. When I find that I'm struggling with a particular chapter or segment, I review how I got to that point and the issue usually resolves itself. Sometimes that means discarding some of what I've written and starting over on that section, but it keeps me writing.
