Interestingly enough, I used a real-life story as part of the plot for my latest book, An Incorrect Solution. I was on a jury that was deliberating an insurance case involving an accident. Something about the testimony and the pictures provided by the defendant didn't sit quite right with me. The evidence didn't support the plaintiff's case from a math viewpoint. Based on the data, the car couldn't have been where they said it was at the time of the accident. I loosely used this case as the basis of the underlying mystery in the book.
