My idea for The Last Village took seed when I visited a spot on the North Wales coast a few years ago. It had an air of mystery about it that spawned a few "what if?" questions in my mind. "What if?" is so important. It is the beginning of a concept. For me, the book did not grow from plotting as a result of that concept, but from allowing the characters to bring it to life. It might seem a bit strange to some, but I allow the characters to come to life in my mind. It is they who tell me the story as they act it out. I just write it down. In a sense, writing a book for me is as exciting as reading one, except that the process is sort of in reverse. Might sound crazy, but that's how it is.
