Ivy Keating The New England landscape inspired me to write 'Camouflage'. I live in a beautiful Connecticut town, surrounded by trees and lakes. One day in fall, I looked into the woodlands and wondered what mysterious creatures could be hidden in there. I thought, if we found something dangerous what would we do? Hunt it? Try to capture it? The answers are in 'Camouflage'.
Ivy Keating There are wonderful resources out there that can help you write a novel. I read all the free advice I could. When I knew I needed additional help, I stayed within a budget.
Know the rules for writing a novel. It’s not good enough to tell a story. Well written novels follow guidelines.
Love criticism. It's great to hear when someone-particularly someone in the field likes your work but in my opinion it's the criticism that actually helps you improve.

Ivy Keating I look ahead to where I want the story to go. Then I think about what has to happen to get there. Sometimes the story will tell me what character has to act next or what a logical progression to the plot is. The story-unlocks the block.
