Fátima Carrero I sit and type. Yeah, what I get might not be perfect but I try by all means to get some words down on the paper. If I'm stuck I also try not to obsess about it. It might be that my characters aren't ready to walk down that path yet, it might be that I'm not really connecting right now with the story and so on... I try not to force it: the story flows back eventually. In the meantime I start writing another thing or I take a small break, I listen to music, cook, work out, and so on...
Fátima Carrero Getting to know your characters. Getting to know other worlds. Other lives. Seeing the world from a total and opposite view without judgment.
Fátima Carrero Write the story you want to tell. Don't get caught up in what the market says or agents prefer right now as odds are when you start querying the market will have changed again. Don't feel sad if your first draft isn't the perfect polished book you'd dreamed of. It's something natural and no writer ever has gotten their book right in the first round.
And lastly, write every day. A writer is always learning the craft. Learn how to produce a beautiful manuscript and the writing rules (and how they also can be broken). And write write write write.
Fátima Carrero My current work in progress is a New Adult manuscript that has become so close to my heart that I don't think I'll ever query it.
Fátima Carrero I don't really wait until inspiration strikes. I like to write even when I don't feel like it. Certainly there are days when I just can't write, but at least I've tried. I sat in front of the computer and typed words, no matter the result. I can always edit, add, change or erase later.
Although music always helps. :)
Fátima Carrero I simply didn't get the idea. I just saw a glimpse, a fast scene. The first thing I ever saw was the hotel window in San Francisco where Eric and Madeleine talk for the first time. Then I saw Eric, sitting on the ground by the bed and a blonde girl by the window and then I knew there was a story behind. The rest of the story started to reveal itself.
