I can sum up my advice in three words: Write! Write! Write! Never stop writing. It takes a long time to get all the back-log out of your brain before the good stuff actually starts coming out. Beyond that: Never get so close to your writing that you fail to listen to others. Some of my greatest writing started out as my worst, until I started paying attention to advice from people I trusted.

Being a writer is both a blessing and a curse. You get to set your own hours, be your own boss. On the other hand, if you're not careful, your writing can consume every moment of every day. There's always a new topic to explore, a new character to create, a new thought to expand.
