Patricia Walsh Chadwick As a story starts to take shape in my mind, I take notes - sometimes just a single word that clues me in to the idea. I will often write one short piece and put it away, to look at another day. Having written only one book, i'm not sure I can say that is the approach I will use as I write my second book.
Patricia Walsh Chadwick I am putting together notes for my second book which will be a sequel to the first. Little Sister is mostly about my childhood growing up in a cult. There is a follow on story - one that I think can be filled with humor as well as being encouraging for women seeking to tackle challenges in the business world. There is much I am grateful for in my childhood, despite it's more than unusual nature, and I think a second book can shed light on that
Patricia Walsh Chadwick If you have never written in a serious way before, I STRONGLY advise that you take a writing course. Good writing is a craft - and there are rules, guidelines and structures that are essential in making a good and great piece of writing. Those aids are not instinctive. I spent five years attending memoir writing classes as i was writing my memoir.
Patricia Walsh Chadwick What I most enjoy about being a writer is the craft of telling a story and then perfecting it so that it really grabs the reader. I love searching for the right word, the most vivid description, creating a scene that the reader can see along with me. I love the process of making something beautiful
Patricia Walsh Chadwick I try to have patience - When it feels as though a boulder sits in front of me, and i can't get over it or around it - I simply accept that fact and get up and do something else. In that way i don't get frustrated. The other side of that coin is that sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and find myself full of "writing" energy. So I get up and write in the middle of the night. I hope that is helpful
