Good question being that I just volunteered at the Great American Teach-In at an area HS and talked about this today. I would say find your passion and keep on writing. Don't worry about publishing. Your passion should be strong enough to carry you through the hard times and passion always gets published.

This book was inspired by the sheer tenacity of Ava and her will to survive under horrendous circumstances. She inspires me.

I wrote this book with my daughter-in-law about her life in foster care, group homes, and eventually lock-up facilities. I have known Ava for about 9 years and the past year I knew I wanted to write about her abusive past and the way she fought to climb her way out of her environment.
