Reading the works of the great authors of the "Golden Age of Crime". Agatha Christie, Freeman Wills Croft. Just having a love of books. My father loved H.G Wells, and would enthral me for hours just telling me about the stories and why they inspired him.

I find making notes throughout the day helps; listing ideas, plots etc... Sometimes if I just sit down and try and think of something, I can get a little stuck.

Don't ever underrate your ability. Don't be afraid to just sit in front of the laptop and write... literally write anything. Don't worry about grammar, spelling etc... Just let it all flow...

I have just completed my next book, The Rooks Die Screaming, which is the sequel to The Woman with the Red Hair. It is now with the publishers and will be released during the summer.

Believe it or not, the idea for The Woman with the Red Hair came to me nearly fifty years ago, when I was a young lad living in the Cornish town of Bodmin. I would walk my dog around the Walter Raleigh Gilbert Monument that overlooks the town, and wonder what it would be like to write a book about the town and the surrounding moors.
When I finally sat down to write the book, I wanted to bring to light the terrible trauma of returning veterans from the First World War and the nightmares that still haunted them long after the guns had fallen silent. Even now, our service men and women carry terrible scars, both physical and mental and pay an endless price for serving their country.
