I try not to put too much pressure on myself to write. I think about what I want to write, and the words I will say. Sometimes it comes easier than other times. When a deadline needs to be reached and I get hit with writer's block I will move around in my project to different areas to jog my creativity. Physical activity is always helpful as well.

The best thing about writing is knowing that something that you shared was able to help or uplift someone who was struggling with a problem in their own life. Hearing that you've had a positive impact in the life of someone else is an amazing feeling.

Write with emotion. Don't try to be someone else. Don't be afraid to express yourself and be unique. People will be drawn to the realness of your writing and feel a connection with you.

I am currently working on the story of my daughter, Alexis Gould Stafford, and her husband, Ricky Stafford. They met on the oncology unit at Primary Children's hospital and quickly became best friends. After supporting one another through many triumphs and trials they realized that they were much more than friends.

With my first book, Turning Weeds into Wildflowers, writing was more of a coping mechanism and a way for me to process the unspeakable situations that we found ourselves in. In everyday life, I look for deeper truths in the things around me and try to find understanding in the mundane. I believe that their is a lesson in every situation. I enjoy looking for, and sharing those lessons.

This book is a result of the experience my family and I had while going through my daughter's cancer journey together. It was an experience unlike any other that holds lessons that are dear to our heart. We felt they could be applied to others' lives and help lift and strengthen them through their trials as well, so we decided to share it.
