I don't get writer's block! I adhere to my outline, write until I get bored, then stop. If I'm bored, the reader will be bored! The next time I sit down to write, I review what I wrote last time, make adjustments and go on.

Know the ending before you begin. Become a people watcher and listener. Base your characters on real people (even if your story takes place in outer space) in order to get more realistic speech patterns, gestures, attitudes etc. Put together an outline of the story arch.

Formerly a successful performer, an accident ended my career. I found myself working for catering companies as a server. One of the companies in particular had quite an eclectic group of people. As they shared their strange stories with me, I kept thinking "if this were in a move or a book no one would believe me". The idea wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it!
