Scott Feero Don't aspire. Just write.
Scott Feero I take out a sketch pad and draw. Doesn't matter what, it focuses the mind.
Anyone can do this- it's not for display. Don't doodle, look out the window and spot a tree or building and draw it. 30 minutes to an hour is usually enough. Then resume writing. (Alternatively if you play an instrument... blow, baby, blow!)

If this doesn't work, it likely means your idea is incomplete. In this case resume outlining the idea (or create a new outline from the draft as it stands)

A couple more suggestions for those working on advanced drafts: work on a different section of the book for a while; or put down your pen and read the thing from the beginning.

Finally for those in desperation: set it aside and work on something else.
Or
Invite a friend out for a drink and bitch and moan about your problems without letting your friend get a word in edgewise so much so that your friend finally cries uncle and abandons you at the bar and you get so drunk and so depressed that you nearly get into a fight and nearly get arrested and lose your keys and have to walk home and when you wake up in the morning and despite the fact that you have a raging hangover and your mouth is so dry you can't peel your tongue from the roof of your mouth and your stomach is churning like a washing machine and from the aroma in the air you suspect that you puked in the front hall and you crack open a little hair of the dog and you sit down and write about that.
Scott Feero At work years ago. I used to work in residential remodeling.
