I step away. I work on another aspect or section of the book. I meditate and daydream about why I'm blocked, because nine times out of 10, it's a story problem. I dive into fixing the story problem, once I know what it is, and voila! No more writer's block.
Sometimes there's a good non-story reason for getting writer's block as well. I recently had to say goodbye to a dear pet, and I didn't even want to write for days due to my grief. I gave myself plenty of space to be OK with that and focused on what was really important at the moment.
