Write, write, write. Write down anything and everything that comes to your mind, whenever and wherever you are. Thoughts, scenes, stanzas, lyrics, inventions, anything. You never know what you'll use in the future. And don't give up!

I struggle with depression and anxiety, and when I was feeling particularly down or hopeless, I would write down little snippets of poetry about my emotions. After piecing several of them together, I came up with the idea of turning them into an actual story, one that others who are battling mental illnesses might be able to relate to and appreciate.
