Brian Smith Besides staring at my computer screen? I walk away. Each time I have had writer's block, I just walked away from the project and focused on something else. Then, out of nowhere an idea would pop in my head. It's like when you can't remember something, it's on the tip of your tongue, then after you've moved onto something else the memory comes back.
Brian Smith I love knowing that my stories will be available for generations and not be lost to family table stories or distant memories of people past. Taking part of you, your thoughts, and sharing them with the world is a bold move, and it's exciting to be bold.
Brian Smith Honestly: WRITE. Just start writing. Don't worry about putting it all together into a book form just yet, you need to start getting your ideas onto paper. The organization and structure of your story can be put together after you have some of your thoughts down.
Brian Smith When I began this project to share the path to understanding our influence, I decided it needed to be done in three parts. So, currently I am working on solidifying the Find the "I" in Team message through marketing efforts and writing the second book Be the "I" in Team; in between that I still advise a handful of clients and lead our organization.
Brian Smith I needed an outlet for all the thoughts and ideas that would invade my mind. In the 90s, we did not have smart phones or even efficient bedside word processors; so, I began writing. As I looked back on my writing, I learned from my thoughts. I was able to understand myself more clearly by reflecting on my past which influenced me to continue to write and produce concise goals for my future.
Brian Smith I have been writing daily for over twenty years. The topic of my writing has always been about either what I influence or what influences me. Over the past few years I have been involved in high school sports and volunteer mentorship academic programs. I kept hearing in both areas, "There is no 'i' in team," and I kept thinking, "Yes there is, and there is a path to teach people how to be the 'i' in team."
