I started by writing fanfic! In high school, waaaay before I even knew fanfic was a thing, I wrote a story about my favorite video game (Phantasy Star IV) just because I wanted to make my own story. It wasn't until I was in college, and had access to the new-fangled "internet" (lol) that I realized people were doing what I was doing! Fast forward 10 years after that and I was a new mom and needed a creative outlet to break up my days of endless toddler-wrangling, so I decided to write fanfic again. Final Fantasy VIII, Star Trek AOS, Final Fantasy XV, and Fallout. I gathered quite a following on my stories and I started to think, "hey, maybe I could do some original work!" So...I did!
And now I have three published books!

Simultaneously working on the third book in the Alchemist Trilogy (as of 3-20-20, the first draft is done and in editing hell), and a mutltiple secret projects tied in with the trilogy, one of which is almost ready to go to the test readers. What is it? Hehe...I'm not telling.
I've also begun to plan a sci-fi project that will work both as a series and a collection of standalones.

It just so happens that I wrote a piece about that very subject for the Indie Author Coalition! The best thing that works for me is to walk away. Give the piece in question some space for a bit--a day, a week, maybe longer--then come back and look with fresh eyes. It's amazing what some time away will do to your perspective and creativity!
