I am currently working on a thriller, which takes place in the fictional town of Besdun, North Carolina.
A young woman is murdered in her home by an ex-con who does so to repay a debt to a convicted murderer.

I wish I had a hard and fast answer for this. I would say just write something, even if you know it's bad. Write it anyway. No one has to see it and you can always delete it. But as you write 'this something bad', either a phrase or a word will hopefully trigger a more engaging idea.

Keep at it. Work hard at smoothing out your prose so that reading it feels like floating on top of water rather than tumbling off a cliff.

I was driving down the road and passed a signed that read, deep water no swimming. I started to wonder how deep does water have to be for swimming not to be allowed. And finally, how long would it take the body of a person who drowned in said deep water to be found.
