Steve Levi I am always working on a dozen projects. When the impossible crime novel slows, I work on short stories or poems. I am always writing, but not always on the same project.
Steve Levi You can do it anywhere, anytime. If you are in it for the money, get out now.
Steve Levi My personal philosophy can be summed up in a sentence: "If you do not have something unique you have nothing at all." If you want to be a writer, be different.
Steve Levi I am always looking for something that is impossible or unexplained. In the book I am completing, an empty armored car under guard disappears in a tunnel. The concept is different; that's why I chose it.
Steve Levi I am not inspired to write; I am compelled to write.
Steve Levi I am always reading: history books, newspapers, magazines, journals. I write impossible crimes -- crimes where the detectives has to solve HOW a crime was committed before he can catch the perpetrators -- so I am always looking in the negative. That is, I am not looking for an idea I can use, but I want to make sure I do not duplicate something that has already been done. In my most recent book, THE MATTER OF THE DESERTED AIRLINER -- a plane leaves Seattle loaded and arrives in Anchorage empty. Then the airport receives an extortion demand. I had never heard of passenger and crew vanishing off a flying plane so that started my novel.
