Pepper Frost Just do it! It can be daunting to start. But with each thing you publish, it gets easier.

One thing that helped me was having written nonfiction first (articles, white papers, ebooks, and a book). Gradually moving up to longer pieces helped me get comfortable with tackling a full-length nonfiction book. Building up allows you to learn to edit yourself more efficiently, too. (Self-editing doesn't replace an editor IMHO, but it improves productivity.)

If you have an expertise to share, I recommend you start with some nonfiction projects. If not, short stories are a good way to dip a toe in. It's so important to feel the accomplishment of actually finishing a project. It's empowering!

(And trust me, if you ask any writer, odds are they'll tell you they've got several unfinished manuscripts. Getting to the point of completing and publishing something is intimidating, but once you do it, you'll gain confidence for the next one.)
Pepper Frost I'm currently working on book three of the Betty Snickerdoodle mystery series. Book two is in the final stages of editing, and will be released early in the fall.
