Josef Alton It's a sequel, so from the first book. where did I get my ideas for that one? From my experiences, research, and failing until all that was left was a success.
Josef Alton Routine. A writing routine is the only way I get words on the page. Once I'm into a routine I'm living in two worlds—one in the city of Seattle and the other inside my story, which takes me around the world.
Josef Alton The sequel to Throw-Away Faces. I'm really stretching myself with this one; I think this project will push me to the next level. What that is, I don't quite know.
Josef Alton Keep reading and keep writing. It's that simple. There is no book or class that will unlock your potential, only putting in the work.
Josef Alton I love sharing my work with others. And, in kind, them sharing their work with me. It's a reciprocal process not unlike a marriage, or a dangerous climb up a mountain. So much about writing is trust—to trust your craft, to trust your ideas and to trust your readers.
Josef Alton I feel that writer's block has to do with what's in the front of your mind. If I'm unsettled, worried, or stressed, it can be hard to focus. I try to approach my work at the same time every morning when I'm my calmest and most settled. However, if I am blocked, I don't make it an issue. The bigger deal I make it out to be the longer it lasts.
