Rachel Mankowitz I keep long lists of ideas and questions to work on, so that when I feel lost in one project I can jump to another one, or another, and always have an outlet. I also think back to something from Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way: always refill your tank with images and ideas and voices and stories that inspire you.
Rachel Mankowitz My advice to all writers is to keep writing, and to do it your own way. There will always be someone to tell you what to write about and how to write it, but if their advice doesn't fit for you, ignore it. Trying to sound like someone else can shut down your own unique voice, and your voice is what we want to hear.
Rachel Mankowitz I'm working on a Middle Grade novel inspired by the actress Olivia Cole, a lifelong friend of my Mom's and an Emmy winning actress for the original TV miniseries Roots. She inspired me when I first saw her on stage in Raisin in the Sun when I was twelve years old, and then every time I saw her on stage, on TV, and in person ever after.

I'm also working on a sequel to Yeshiva Girl, revisions on a young adult fantasy called George Can Fly, and too many essays and blog posts.
