Keep trying. It's worth it in the end. When I started writing 'Vengeance of Hope' in February 2013, I didn't honestly imagine that I'd see it though and get it published. There were certainly many times when I thought I'd never finish it, but I did. It was then published in November 2018, and it's such a great feeling.
Once you've finished that first book, the confidence that you carry into the creation of the second one is invaluable, as I found out when creating the second book in the 'Vengeance of Hope' series, 'King of the Republic' which, I'd like to just add, is due out in 2019!

I have recently had my first experiences of talking to people who have read my first novel, Vengeance of Hope, and for me, the really cool part was knowing that the characters who originally only existed in my mind have now come to life in the imagination of others. It's fun to wonder about how they picture them. After all, in any novel, we can all read about the same character in the same book, and yet even with a detailed description, we will all imagine them slightly differently.

I don't always write scenes in the order that they appear in the book, and I usually have more than one project on the go at the same time. So for me, if I have a scene where I just can't find the right words to make it work, I make some detailed notes about what is going to happen in that section, and then I switch my attention to working on a different piece of writing until such time as I feel I can come back to the scene and create it in a way that I am satisfied with.
