It just kind of happens. With "Baked Off!" I was pregnant, bored, grumpy, and it was the middle of winter in New York. My husband had gone away to Florida for 2 weeks so I was watching a lot of Netflix. The idea for Baked Off! came to me as I walked home from the supermarket in the rain, with the ingredients for carrot and bran muffins (turned out vile.) I'd been watching a lot of old episodes of GBBO and the character of Maude just sort of popped into my head and it went from there. I wrote the first 5000 words in 24 hours. It took another year to write the remaining 85,000, and another year to sort through and edit.

Truthfully, I am currently working on trying to retain my sanity. Our beautiful 1 year old baby boy is allergic to sleep. I have a few ideas but they are still very much in the development stage.

Don't think about it too much, if you want to write then write, you are a writer once you start writing.

Creating a world from your imagination and researching all sorts of weird and wonderful things like the mating schedules of Alpaca's for instance.

Work though it, If you keep your head down and just write, eventually you'll break through the cobwebs and land on something brilliant.
