When I write my books and create places, I usually take couple of real world places, mix them, add a lot of imagination, and then the place is born. So it is very difficult to say that this place is like that place in real world.
Of course there are some exceptions. Most obvious of them are from books I'm working on right now, so I will not spoil those places for you yet. However I can give you one example.
If you read my second book, Yöltä riistetty, you will find description of an area surrounding city of Varya. This area is inspired by ridge landscape of eastern and middle Finland. Most notable a hiking paths called "Susitaival" and "Huuhkajan kierros" have inspired me greatly when creating this area.

It is very hard to relate to characters from other authors. They are made by those authors, and I can't tell what they have thought while writing nor can I know their characters so thoroughly.
As with my own characters, I can't say that I relate more to some specific character. In a way they are all extensions of me. I give many of my own thoughts to my characters, and in a way it is easier to process my own thoughts from the perspective of these characters. Of course some characters have more of me in them than others.
So my answer to your question is probably all of them!

If there was one world I could go, I'd probably go to World of Mistborne series by Brandon Sanderson and would find out if I could become Allomancer. That would be awesome

I have had a busy summer and haven't been able to read much, but I had my hands of Empire of Grass by Tad Williams and I loved it. I'm also looking forward to R.A.Salvatores Boundless that is coming out soon.

I usually get inspiration from all things around me, from everyday life, from movies, music and books. Then I work these ideas I get in my head for long times, sometimes even months, and when the idea or concept is ready, I put it in paper.
