The footsteps on the stairs grew heavier... and closer. I yelled for my mother... but she didn't come.

Well we're heading into autumn so my summer reading is past :-) but I read two fantastic books this summer, The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker and Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman. Next on my list is Munich by Robert Harris.

My editor was editing "A Merman's Choice" and mentioned something that she thought might happen to the heroine. I didn't use it in this book - but I used it in the next one, "Music for a Merman", which is now going through edits.

Some of my ideas come to me in dreams, or from books I read, or from things I see. Years ago, when I was still living with my parents in Brittany, I saw a group of men come out of the sea. They’d been swimming, and they were wearing full-body wetsuits, with palms on their feet. It made me imagine shape-shifting mermen who could switch between an aquatic shape (with legs but webbed hands and feet) and the human form.

A Merman’s Choice is the first book in a trilogy about shape-shifting mermen. I am currently working with my wonderful editor/creative writing tutor, Laurie Sanders, to edit the second book in the series, “Music for a Merman”. I have just started writing the third book, “Mermaids Marry in Green”. I have also written the outline for a Christmas novella, “Santa and the Mermaid”, to complete the series. As Dory says in “Finding Dory”: “Keep on swimming!”

I don’t tend to get it. I have so little time to write that I make myself write even when I don’t feel like it, because I’m afraid of wasting precious writing time!
