I'd live in J.K.'s universe. First, I'd shop in Diagon Alley and try treats that only exist in magical worlds. But then I'd go to Hogwarts. I'm totally fine to be a First Year at 31. I need to learn some History of Magic and Defence Against the Dark Arts.

I finished Gretched by Shannon Kirk. All I can say is wow! Right now I'm reading You'll Never Know, Dear by Hallie Ephron. So far, I'm amazing. She's called the Queen of Secrets for a reason. Next up is one of six books, but probably Good Omens, because my friend let me borrow it (and I'm desperate to see the differences between the show and novel).

I know this sounds hard to believe, but I've never had it. I've gotten stuck at certain parts of the story, sure. There have always been other parts waiting to be told, though.

Creating worlds–be they realistic or fantastic (of which I write both)–and having my characters walk all over me in them.

The main thing is to stop and think about what you want out of writing. Check out a book called "The Successful Novelist: A Lifetime of Lessons about Writing and Publishing" by David Morrell. After that, if you still think you can't imagine yourself doing anything but writing, then study the craft. Accept criticism gracefully–gratefully, even. Ask for help, and most importantly, don't think you deserve anything. Earn it. You'll be happier when and if you do.

A literary suspense novel. I'm very excited about it. It's called "sweethearts?" and will be out December 2019. More info on that in the coming months–keep up to date via my instagram @emitchellwrites!

Voices in my head bug me until I tell their stories.

About 4 years ago, I was in a poetry class at ECU. We were given the assignment to write a poem based on a song–I think. Or maybe it was a pick-your-own thing. Anyhow, Flyleaf's This Close came on my podthing and inspired a work that ended up being published. I always felt more needed to be said, though. So, after writing a few other novels that have since been put away for later, I decided I needed a "passion project" (as Louise Belcher would say). And this became that project.
