With my busy schedule, I have small windows of opportunity to write. I love writing so much that I think about it and look forward to the times that I get to write. I suppose if I had more time to write, I might have to get inspired to do it. That's not really a problem for me at this point. I suppose you could say that I'm always inspired to write!

Find a mentor! Having someone who has been down the path before and can help you on the path is priceless! As writers, sometimes we need someone who can warn us of the pitfalls. My mentor (Grant Cunningham) and co-author of "Praying Safe" steered me away from some big rookie mistakes and was sympathetic when I had a "great idea" that wasn't so great to anyone else. Having a good mentor to break your mistakes to you gently and point you in the right direction can be a game changer. I am a better writer because of my friend and mentor. Get a writing mentor!!

I'm a fairly new book writer, so my experience is a bit limited. So far, the best thing has been engaging with the readers. I've received some great feedback and suggestions for future books and revisions. It's one thing to write a book, it's another experience altogether to be able to interact with your readers. It's one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences in my life.

It came about after years of working with places of worship in a consulting capacity. I had an outline for "Praying Safe" way back in 2010. It wasn't until I discussed it with my co-author Grant Cunningham that it became a real idea. Grant has been a great mentor to me and helped cultivate the idea for the book. I couldn't have asked for a better writing partner!

I'm working on a companion workbook for "Praying Safe" that will help give proper tools to those implementing the concepts in the book. Once I am finished with that, well, I think I have another book in me.

I like to break down what I am trying to write into a core principle. I then start researching that core principle in another discipline. For instance, when I was writing "Praying Safe" I hit a block when trying to describe how some people in churches dismiss the need for security. I researched what causes people to think that way when accidents happen at concerts or in other disasters. I was reminded through the research of the impact of normalcy bias and the block was gone. I do think each writer has to have their own method, but this research until I get inspiration is one that seems to work for me. I look forward to trying other methods in future books.
