Chest heaving, splattered in ghoul brains, I barricade the bathroom door. When I finally turn on the taps, I shriek at the sight of my new, lengthening claws.

If you like tiny stories, I participate in a Twitter game called #vss365. Every day, we post Tweet-sized stories based on that day's prompt word. Plenty more horror (and other) stories out there!

There's so much advice out there, I don't know I could say anything helpful! Maybe just: know *why* you're writing. Whatever you produce, no matter how good, isn't going to be loved by everyone. So if you know what *you* want out of the process, you'll be in a good position to weigh up other people's feedback, reviews, critiques and so on. You can then decide if/what you're going to change without worrying your work will mutate into something you don't recognise.

"Writer's block" might mean different things to different people. There are many aspects to the writing process, so if I find myself stuck on one part (say, setting up a tricky scene), I'll try to do something related - like concentrate on the prose rather than scene logic, or see what an uninvolved character is up to.

I think my new project will have a more overtly steampunk setting, with odd technology and quirky characters. I've already given them reasons to be suspicious of each other. Hopefully that will play out nicely against plot events.

The one I've just released (A Quiet Rebellion: Posterity) was the final book of a trilogy, so the elements (worldbuilding, important events, interesting characters) were already there. I knew some history that my characters didn't, and it was fun seeing how they discovered it and reacted.
