Try not to compare yourself to other writers. Figure out what you like to write by what you like to read. If you have 10 unfinished novels sitting on your shelf, but you regularly read magazines cover to cover, you'd probably have a better time writing for magazines than attempting to author an epic novel.

When I have writer's block, I walk away from what I'm working on for a while and focus on something else like washing dishes (something unrelated to writing). Sometimes, a simple shower will help; I always get great ideas in the shower since I'm alone and have time to think.
