After years of working in collegiate ministry, I had seen so many people struggle with uncertainty and doubt. They fell into two camps: the certain and the uncertain. The certain were struggling to maintain their certainty in the face of creeping doubts, shutting out any voices that challenged that certainty. The uncertain acknowledged their doubts but believed that they were bad at their faith for doing so. I wanted to write a book that said to both: uncertainty and doubt are unavoidable—and that's a good thing for a vibrant and meaningful faith.
