Elizabeth Gauffreau Hi, Paul. I would be interested in editing your poetry collection. Could you please email me at elizabeth.gauffreau@comcast.net and let me know what you have in mind? Liz
Elizabeth Gauffreau Hi, Paul. I'm publisher/editor for Paul Stream Press.
Elizabeth Gauffreau Hi, Joyce! I knew the basic set-up of the story when I began the book, that Faby would succumb to the charms of a small-time vaudeville player who breezes through town. I then had to think about what a girl would have been like who loved the vaudeville show that much.
Elizabeth Gauffreau My advice to aspiring writers is to give yourself the time and the freedom to learn your craft without worrying about publication. That was the advice a very wise writing professor gave to me when I was first starting out, and I found it incredibly liberating to just focus on learning the craft of fiction.
Elizabeth Gauffreau I would have to say the act of writing itself is the best thing about being a writer. When writer brain kicks in and the words start flowing, there is no better feeling in this life!
Elizabeth Gauffreau The idea came from a scribbled note from my mother when she asked me to write a biography of my father after he died in 2000. The note said, "Elliott I. committed suicide and had a sister Dorothy." Elliott I. was my grandfather, who died before I was born. The note was such an odd juxtaposition of facts to sum up someone's life that I couldn't get it out of my head. I wanted it to make sense, and the only way it could was for me to create this family's story myself.
Elizabeth Gauffreau Luckily, I've been writing long enough that I have plenty of less-than-successful pieces I can pull out and revise if facing the blank screen is too daunting.
