As a kid I loved 'My Side of the Mountain' by Jean Craighead George. Specifically I enjoyed the details of surviving in nature. I wanted to write a story of a young soldier during the American Civil War. By telling the adventures of an infantry private it provides the opportunity to share the heroic and tragic as well as the mundane.
