Jess Neal Woods I write. Truly. I know that sounds simple, but writing is a practice just like anything else. It takes discipline. I do love those moments of consuming inspiration, but honestly it is more about making writing a habit. If I am really struggling with a project, I just switch it up for a bit.
Jess Neal Woods I find inspiration in listening to others, in reading, in giving myself plenty of space to think...our culture is so busy, we often miss the good stuff. Space and silence are important.
Jess Neal Woods My newest manuscript (in progress) is a post-WWII novel that is inspired by a real woman skirting precarious lines in Germany. Her story is a captivating one. With fierce independence and bravery she takes her life into her own hands, but it is not without sacrifice. I can't wait to share it with the world!
Jess Neal Woods The Process of Fraying is based loosely on my great-grandmother, whose real name is, in fact, Violet. I have drawn from her life, characteristics, interests, and experiences. The more I researched the history of mental health, the more I realized that Violet, the character, needed to embody something greater than one individual's story.
