Sameer Garach I think all authors and writers are influenced by other works. Hence, I'm inspired by novels, movies, and so forth. They give me ideas, and when I put different ideas together with my own personal spin, you get my work. Observation of life in general, the way people act, aids the process. Personal experiences and friends' experiences also contribute to the work.
Sameer Garach For The Bull Option, I noticed that most books and movies about Wall Street centered on financial crime, and stories of heists that have multiple characters focused on robbing banks, artwork, or casinos. I wanted to put the two things--Wall Street and multiple characters pulling a heist--together. In effect, I think readers get something new though I use old ideas. Of course, no book is written without its fair share of personal experiences; so I drew upon my life to form some scenes and characters. In the end, I hope readers enjoy my novel as much as I did in writing it.
Sameer Garach I usually just write whatever comes to my mind, then go back later and try to edit it if it doesn't make sense or sound right. I think you have to force writing a bit; it's not going to be right the first time you put your ideas on paper. It's better to have some content than nothing.
Sameer Garach Working at my own pace and in my own way. I like working independently, feeding my introverted nature, and learning about worlds foreign to me. But the best part is providing entertainment; delighting my readers gives me great joy.
Sameer Garach Persistence is key. Writing a book is not something to get done or to check off your list; it's a journey that takes time. Join a writing critique group; the members in your group can help you find flaws no single editor can find on his or her own. Plus, most critique groups are free. Seek to learn rather than to argue why your book is perfect the way it is. Finally, don't give up.
