Travis Howe I just write whatever comes to mind. Sometimes it's hot garbage, but I've found that even within the garbage, there might be one or two copies of E.T. for Atari. You just gotta trust that the "rough" can be turned into a "diamond."
Travis Howe I've spent my career as an animator, which I love! But two benefits that writing has over animating -- when I'm writing, the world, characters, actions, everything is solely MINE, which is very liberating, and secondly, I can tell a lot more story this way. Animation is a long and tedious process, just getting a few seconds done is a massive effort. Writing is very freeing in this way.
Travis Howe Just do it. It's kind of like working out. At first it sucks, and its hard to get yourself to commit to the effort. But after a few days or weeks of really pushing, it starts to become routine.
Travis Howe Animal Control 2 -- title to be announced some time down the road!
Travis Howe I love action and adventure. So I listen to music that puts adventures into my head, then develop stories around those sequences. A great example is "The Vendetta Conspiracy" by Two Steps from Hell, which directly influenced a scene in Animal Control when Jack is trying to chase down a shadowy figure.
Travis Howe Animal Control: The Hero's Apprentice was inspired by my love for action cartoons of the 90s -- TMNT, Swat Kats, Darkwing, DuckTales, etc. For a long time, it was just a series of characters and adventures I'd make up in hopes that my animation career would lend me an opportunity to pitch a feature or TV series.
I didn't read the Harry Potter series until I was in my mid-twenties, but reading those books opened the door for me. Now I HAD to write Animal Control as a book series!
