Raymond Hardie I was brought up as a N. Irish Presbyterian. Guilt is a legacy. A curse and a dark inspiration. So I feel increasingly guilty until I can't stand it. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Then I go running or have an IPA.
Raymond Hardie I'm working on an historic thriller set in Berlin and East Germany in late 1989 and early 1990. A South Bronx detective tries to find his brother's killer and becomes enmeshed in gangs of former Soviet and East German secret police selling everything they can in order to survive. Target for my first draft is mid fall.
Raymond Hardie I love footnotes. I'm kind of addicted to them, something that became much easier with Google - instant gratification. I was researching another book to be set in 1934 when I came across the Business Plot, which had been hatched in 1933. I had to find out about it and so started my characters in that year. Also I regard 1933 as one of those important historical years with FDR and Hitler coming to power only a few months apart.
