A.J. Cerna I sit down and start. Rarely am I inspired when I jump in. Instead, I sit down at my computer at the same time every day and work. After a few weeks, my mind was conditioned to start working at the same time every day. Once I'm in a piece, usually around 10 minutes in without interruption, I have finally become inspired and engaged. Outside of the initial idea stages when a concept first comes into my head, I rarely get inspired to sit down and start writing.
A.J. Cerna Writer's block is just a term that means we're dealing with a problem that needs solving. Like any other profession, it's just a nut that needs cracking. This may mean gritting your teeth and diving in, going back to find the true source of a problem earlier in the story, or stepping away for a few hours. But the solution is never stepping away from the writing process for months at a time. That only trains my mind to allow myself not to get work done.
